IMAGINING SHARED LANDS
The project collects and relaunches Editing 2005 opening the investigation on the impact of borders and barriers on the reality and collective unconscious of peoples. Borders reinforce identity, but limit communication, create a need for freedom and movement by emphasizing the value of solidarity in law. Imagining means overcoming the border and the territory of Gorizia/Nova Gorica revealed by the imagination and the gaze of contemporary artistic sensibility opens the field to research and possibility.
The project is divided into two complementary moments:
– EDITING/RESIDENCE: a series of bilateral artistic residencies with research purposes Four artistic residencies will follow one another at Palazzo Lantieri in 2006 and will involve the organizations of the Editing network created in 2005. The twinning of 2006 supports:
workshop#1 – Austria (Graz) and Serbia, 15-19 February : Max Gansberger (Austria) Miriam Mone( Austria) Petar Mirkovic (Serbia) Vladimir Peric (Serbia)
workshop#2 – Italy and Slovenia, 18-22 April: Vesna Bukovec (Slovenia) Metka Zupanic (Slovenia) Lada Cerar (Slovenia) Roberto Gammone (Italy) Dario D’Aronco (Italy)
workshop#3 – Romania and Slovakia, 15-19 July: Dorota Kenderova (Slovakia) Martin Piacek (Slovakia) Haynalka Bessenyei (Romania)
workshop#4 – Bulgaria and Croatia, 28 September-1 October: Kosta Tonev (Bulgaria) Antun Bozicevic (Croatia) Tanja Dabo (Croatia) The proposals concern the reading of the urban and social context with suggestions for transformations, integrations and recoveries. Each time two artists from two countries of the reference area confront each other to develop concrete proposals. At the same time, a dialogue will develop between the invited artists and the cultural context of Gorizia and Nova Gorica. The goal is to create a reality where art can find a place for reflection and can offer new opportunities for comparison, characterizing Gorizia, as a real laboratory.
EDITING RESIDENCE is supported by CEI, Central European Initiative. Curated by Lorenzo Benedetti and Cecilia Casorati, artistic coordination: Giovanna Felluga
– EDITING/WESTIVAL: a festival dedicated to artistic expressions in the borderlands A mini festival of performance and acting by contemporary artists, poets and musicians will conclude the event in mid-October 2006. The themes touched on in the event that will take place at Palazzo Lantieri reflect the collective imagination of the borderlands such as the dream of freedom, nostalgia and a sense of solitude, the desire for sharing and community with references to the tradition of the geographical area.
