Il violino di Kounellis

2016, 2017, 2018, 2019

Project born from the encounter of art with the prison world. Curated by Zerynthia Associazione per l’Arte Contemporanea OdV with the Fondazione Casa dello Spirito e delle arti Onlus.

The great artist Jannis Kounellis, who died on February 16, 2017, visited the violin making workshop of the Milan-Opera Prison.  He was accompanied by Maestro Carlo Crivelli, gallerist Mario Pieroni and Arnoldo Mosca Mondadori. Inspired by this meeting, he conceived one of his last works (s.t., 2016), using one of the violins built by the prisoners, to be donated later to the Casa dello Spirito e delle arti Onlus Foundation. At the death of the artist, Maestro Carlo Crivelli composed the score Il Violino di Kounellis for 4 violins and string orchestra, which had its world premiere in Milan on November 27, 2017. The concert was revived in Stockholm in 2018 and in Venice in 2019, as part of the SOUND&ART project, curated by Zerynthia in collaboration with the Brera Academy of Fine Arts.
